I’m back with another post about books! These are probably my favorite posts to write, and they help keep me accountable as I’m trying to make it to 52 books in 2018 (or 1 book a week!).
Pro tip: I found these books on Wikibuy, which helps you find coupons, sales, and basically anything you want for less! I’m loving it because we all know I can’t have enough books, and it definitely helps my wallet to find them for the cheapest prices!
All the Pretty Things
This book has been on my list for a long time and it was so great to finally get to sit down and enjoy it! I read it so quickly, because Edie’s childhood story is so fascinating. One of my favorite things about All the Pretty Things is that there was so much redemption in the end to all of the suffering that she experienced as a child. If you’ve read The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls – I bet you’ll LOVE this book!
Every Good Endeavor
Tim Keller has so much wisdom, and Every Good Endeavor is no exception. It was recommended to me by a friend during a conversation about how to use our jobs and vocations as ministry, and this book showed me how important it is to use hard work, excellence, integrity, etc. in the workplace as an act of worship.
Strength to Love
I was about a page into this book when I was once again floored by Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful and wise words. What a man! Everything he says about racial segregation and reconciliation is so spot on, especially today. I found my views constantly challenged by MLK’s words, and I think I want to read Strength to Love annually to remind me of this truth and what so many people in America have endured.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette
This book is so sentimental to me because I finished it during a thunderstorm that trapped me inside of a little coffee shop in Durham, England for a few hours. The memory of sitting by the window with my Earl Grey tea and a pastry while reading Where’d You Go, Bernadette is one of my favorites from this trip.
Anyway, about the book – it’s simply the story of a girl’s complicated relationship with her mother and her search to find her mother when she disappears. It’s a sweet, compelling story that I really enjoyed. I’d call it a perfect beach read!
Present Over Perfect
This book has been on my list for ages. I really like Shauna Niequist (I also have her devotional Savor: Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Are) and Present over Perfect holds so much important truth that I need to hear constantly. We don’t always have to be busy, we don’t always have to be perfect, but instead we can rest in God’s presence and grace. SO GOOD, right?
Till We Have Faces
110% one of my favorite books of all time. It’s C.S. Lewis’ retelling of the classic Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche, and it is a masterpiece. It’s full of allegory (classic Lewis) and I get something new out of it every time I read it. Till We Have Faces has some of the most developed and dynamic characters that I’ve ever read and I literally recommend it to everyone!!
