1 month of my shopping ban = over and done!
It’s actually been much easier than I expected to cut out shopping! I unsubscribed from all of the brand email newsletters so I wouldn’t be tempted by sales, unfollowed brands on Instagram, and I walk quickly past all of the home decor and clothing in Target! 😉
The only times this month that I was seriously tempted to shop was when I saw $2 succulents in blush pink pots at Trader Joe’s and when my favorite leggings were on sale. BUT the Lord (and my sisters) helped me stay strong and walk away!
I sold or donated all of the clothes, shoes, and accessories that I don’t regularly wear. Some things were really hard to say goodbye to, but it was good to get rid of things that I don’t use! It felt really wonderful to cut back on the things I have in my house, because I truly have so much more than I need.
I’ve struggled a little bit with hating my wardrobe this month, and what I would normally do when I feel this way is add some new clothes to spruce things up. But since I can’t shop, I’ve had to learn to be content with what I already have, and recognize that I’ve been really blessed with the things I already own.
What I’ve learned so far:
- I have a lot of extra time without shopping!
- I didn’t realize how much I thought about shopping until I stopped. CRAZY.
- I really don’t NEED anything.
- There are healthier things to do when I’m stressed or bored – like read my Bible and pray!
Overall, I think I’ve been happier and my mind has been clearer since I haven’t been thinking about shopping at all. I’m really excited to learn more from this little experiment in the next 2 months!
